Three Ways Big Data Can Improve Training Many experts agree that "big data" will change the way organizations manage their workforce; in particular, in how they recruit, retain and develop top talent. A few key drivers that can be used to drive continuous improvement in an organization's ongoing training programs are: 1. To improve learning among young learners, invest in self-study modules and high quality courseware. 2. Learners recommend effective training; hence training that is not recommended should be revised or retired. 3. For training to lead to performance and future results, it should be tailored to the educational level of the audience. —Free download: http://knowledgeadvisors.com/big-data Learning Executives' Confdence Waivers Learning executives' optimism and confdence about the outlook and expectations for the training function fell in the second quarter of 2013, according to the Learning Executive Confdence Index (LXCI.) Key trends include: >> Learning executives' expectations from Q1 to Q2 2013 declined, but optimism remains strong. The Q2 2013 LXCI score of 65.3 is close to the score the industry reported a year ago (65.6). >> The impact of corporate performance and the perception of the value of learning continue to be the most positive LXCI indicators, with 69.8 and 68.8 percent (respectively) believing that it will be moderately or substantially better in the next six months; >> More than one-half of learning executives believe that there will be an increase in workplace L&D; funding in the next 18 months and later (a 16 percent increase from Q1 2013). The study queried 359 learning executives (LXs) about their expectations in these areas: ability to meet learning needs; perception of the value of learning; and availability of resources. Based in London, U.K., Mahony will take responsibility for NetDimensions' global HR programs with an immediate focus on hiring. Prior to joining NetDimensions, Mahony was a senior consultant at IBM, having worked on complex HR trans- formation projects and strategies with multinational, multi-cultural global companies and FTSE 100 clients. More recently, she has been working as an HR management consultant and coach. SEAN GORMAN has joined Panopto as chief operating ofcer (COO). A veteran digital technology executive, Gorman has more than 20 years of experience bringing disruptive technologies to market. As COO, Gorman will lead Panopto's sales, business development and operations. Gorman played a key role in developing innovative digital media businesses such as Amazon's Kindle and Microsoft's Xbox. Most recently, he was the director and general manager of Amazon's Newsstand business. Cobham has named ROBERT (ROB) MULLINS to the position of executive vice president, Corporate Strategy and Mergers & Acquisitions. He will report directly to Cobham CEO Bob Murphy and be based initially at the Group's Corporate North America offce in Arlington, Va. Prior to joining Cobham, Mullins held the position of senior vice president, Corporate Strategy for Alliant Techsystems, an aerospace, defense and commercial products company with annual revenues of approximately $4.3 billion. From 2002 to 2010, he was employed by Northrop Grumman. HELEN BERMAN joined the Elearning! Media Group as Sales & Marketing Director. Her passion for training and e-learning, as well as 20 years of media strategy leadership, makes her a great addition to the team.
