CEOs Want More Coaching Seventy-eight percent of CEOs claim it was their own idea to receive coaching. Twenty-one percent say that coaching was the board chairman's idea. More than 60 percent of CEOs say that the progress they are making in their coaching sessions is kept between themselves and their coach; only a third say that this information is shared with the board of directors. "As coaching is starting to lose its 'stigma,' more of this secrecy is being removed," says Stephen Miles, CEO of The Miles Group. Large Companies Lack Engagement Only one-quarter of employees within large organizations are highly engaged, says a recent research survey. This is a critical shortcoming because engaged employees are extremely valuable; they are more than twice as likely to do something good for the company that is unexpected of them, almost three times as likely to make a recommendation for an improvement, and six times as likely to recommend that a friend or relative apply for a job with their employer. In fve areas of activities — Inspire, Inform, Instruct, Involve and Incent — only fve percent of organizations showed "strong" competencies while 59 percent were "weak" or "very weak." Other highlights from the research: >> >> 94 percent of respondents measure employee engagement, and 67 percent measure it at least annually. >> 43 percent of respondents believe that their executive team highly prioritizes taking action based on the employee engagement feedback. >> Firms with stronger employee engagement efforts are fve times more likely than other frms to treat the results from employee engagement surveys as a high priority. "Although much of the coaching discussion should be treated confdentially," adds Dr. David F. Larcker of Stanford University, "keeping the board informed of progress can improve CEO/board relations." Nearly two-thirds of CEOs do not receive coaching or leadership advice from outside consultants or coaches, and almost half of senior executives are not receiving any either. And nearly 100 percent indicate that they actually enjoy the process of receiving coaching and leadership advice. —More info: www.miles-group.com —Full report: http://experiencematters.wordpress.com or www.temkingroup.com Deals The American Cancer Society has partnered with Kineo to create a cutting-edge online learning center.
