Now imagine an LMS that can provide guidance to an employee when they needed directions, suggest better alternatives based upon current conditions, and could be turned off when the employee already knows the route — or is simply exploring. As we move out of the classroom and into the workplace, we need to broaden the definition of our role. That expanded role includes all of the things we've done in the past to manage and deliver world- class learning, but with the addition of one new and very important element: employ- ee performance. In reality, wasn't that what we were intended to do in the first place — help employees perform at their best? As our thinking expands and moves to that more all-encompassing set of responsibilities, we see that we've only begun to scratch the surface with our current talent and learning management systems. Anticipating the changing work- force further challenges our combined intellect. But that is the task — and the fun — ahead of us.
